Privacy policy

Your reading experience should be thoughtful about your privacy, too. Here is what we use, why we use it and what you can control.

Who we are

Quran Blog is a publication for reading, learning and reflection. This policy explains the information the publication uses to provide your reading experience.

You can find account controls and support information on our Help page.

The information we use

When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, password hash, account role and account dates. Passwords are hashed rather than stored as readable text. A social sign-in provider may give us your verified email address, name and provider identifier so we can connect your sign-in to the correct account.

Your account stores the profile details you choose, saved stories, followed writers and topics, hidden stories, muted writers and topics, appearance, notification choices and onboarding selections. These preferences are private account information. Approved responses show your display name and response publicly; your account email is not shown with them.

If reading history is enabled, we record the story, approximate active reading time, reading progress and visit dates. We use these signals, together with your explicit follows, saves and reactions, to recommend stories. Browser focus and visibility limit the time credited to a visit.

Membership records include the plan, subscription status, access expiry and billing-provider identifiers. Payment details are entered directly into Stripe checkout. Quran Blog does not store your full card number or security code.

Why we use it

We use account information to sign you in, protect your account, keep your library and preferences, moderate responses, provide membership access and deliver the notifications you choose. We use reading signals to arrange your feed around your interests. We do not sell your reading history or account email.

Account and membership processing is necessary to provide the services you request. Optional publication, follow and digest emails use the preferences you select, and you can withdraw those choices at any time. Security and moderation serve the publication's legitimate interest in preventing abuse and protecting readers. Applicable legal obligations may require particular billing or security records to be retained.

Recommendations you control

The personalized feed considers followed topics and writers, your recent reading activity, saved stories, reactions, freshness and editorial selections. It reduces stories you hide or subjects you mute and keeps room for different writers and topics.

You can switch personalization off, use Latest or Following, change your follows, mute a subject or writer, and clear your history in Settings. Turning reading history off deletes the stored reading sessions. This recommendation system orders stories; it does not make decisions about credit, employment or other similarly significant matters.

Cookies and browser storage

An essential session cookie keeps you signed in. Social sign-in uses short-lived, protected cookies to complete the sign-in you initiate. Guest bookmarks, appearance, a dismissed welcome message and a signal that another tab changed its sign-in use browser storage. Guest bookmarks remain on that browser until you remove them or clear its storage.

These controls are part of the reading experience. This implementation does not add third-party advertising trackers or send article text to an external language-model service for recommendations or metadata generation.

Service providers and listening

The hosting provider stores the publication and account database. The configured email provider handles requested email delivery. Stripe handles payments and billing. If enabled and chosen by you, Google or GitHub handles social sign-in. Their services have their own privacy terms and may process information in other countries. Where applicable, the operator must use suitable safeguards for international data transfers.

Listening uses your browser's speech engine. Voices labeled “device” are reported by the browser as local; other voices may use a browser or operating-system provider's remote speech service. Listening is article narration rather than Quran recitation. You choose whether to start it.

How long information stays

Your account and saved preferences remain while your account exists. Reading history is limited to a rolling 90-day window. The scheduled delivery process removes older reading sessions, notifications older than 180 days, and completed or failed email delivery records older than 90 days.

You can remove your reading history at any time. Deleting a reader account removes its profile, library, follows, reading sessions, reactions, notifications, provider sign-in links and responses from this application. An active subscription is canceled before the account is deleted. The billing provider may retain records it needs for legal or accounting obligations. Backup copies, if the hosting operator maintains them, follow that operator's documented backup-retention process.

Your choices and rights

Settings lets you update profile details, change your password, choose email preferences, export your account data and delete a reader account. Unsubscribe links change the email category specified in the link without changing other choices.

Depending on the law that applies to you, you may request access, correction, erasure, portability or restriction of your personal information, object to certain uses, withdraw consent and complain to a relevant data-protection authority. The European Commission explains GDPR data rights. Visit Help for support information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service changes. The date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes affecting your account or choices should be communicated through the publication or your account notifications.
